According to the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN), the phrase “sexual assault” means sexual contact or behavior that occurs without the explicit consent of the victim. The Lyft sexual assault lawsuits also allege, among other things, that Lyft failed to implement common-sense safety measures such as requiring fingerprint-based background checks, requiring cameras in cars, interviewing drivers, warning female passengers of the known danger of sexual assault, reporting instances of sexual assault to law enforcement when Lyft learns of them allowing law enforcement to investigate alleged criminal conduct, adopting a zero-tolerance policy for sexual assault and allowing female passengers to elect to have female drivers.
