If your child was fed WanaBana Apple Cinnamon Applesauce Pouches, Schnucks Applesauce Pouches or Weis Quality Cinnamon Applesauce Pouches, you may be entitled to compensation from a WanaBana lead poisoning lawsuit case or settlement claim.

A team of products recall injury lawyers and class action attorneys is investigating potential lawsuit cases and settlement claims involving children who may have exposed to lead or suffered lead poisoning after being fed recalled WanaBana, Schnucks or Weis apple sauce pouches.

In October of 2023, WanaBana USA issued a recall of WanaBana Apple Cinnamon Fruit Purée pouches due to reports of elevated levels of lead found in certain units of the product. In November of 2023 Schnucks Markets Inc. and Weis Markets recalled certain WanaBana apple sauce pouches (distributed independently as private label brands) due to possible elevated levels of lead found in cinnamon raw material used by Austrofood SAS, the manufacturer of applesauce cinnamon pouches.

Unfortunately, lead is toxic to humans, especially children. Children under the age of six are at the greatest risk of developing health problems caused by toxic effects of lead exposure because their bodies are still developing, and they have an incomplete blood-brain barrier that allows the entry of lead into their nervous system. In fact, according to the CDC, there is no safe blood lead level in children.

Lead Poisoning Signs & Symptoms In Children

  • Hearing loss
  • Constipation
  • Fatigue
  • Lethargy
  • Weight loss

According to the FDA, however, lead exposure in children is often difficult to see because most children have no obvious immediate symptoms. Lead poisoning can only be diagnosed through clinical testing. Therefore, the FDA recommends that if parents have any suspicion at all that their child may have been exposed to lead, they should talk to their healthcare provider or local health department about getting a blood lead test (a finger-prick or heel-prick capillary test or a venous blood draw that takes blood from a child’s vein) to check for the presence of lead.

Lead Poisoning Treatment

Lead poisoning treatments can include removing the source of the lead toxicity (i.e., children should not eat the recalled WanaBana, Schnucks, or Weis-brand apple cinnamon pouches and parents should discard them), eating foods with calcium, iron, and vitamin C that may help keep lead out of the body and, in some severe cases, chelation therapy (use of certain medicine to help remove lead from the body).
