Veozah Liver Injury Lawsuit [2024]: Have You (or A Loved One) Suffered Liver Damage After Taking Veozah (Fezolinetant) For Menopause Symptoms?

Veozah lawsuit case settlement claim liver damage injury

If you or a loved one suffered from liver injury after taking Veozah (fezolinetant) for menopause symptoms, you may be entitled to compensation from a Veozah lawsuit case or settlement claim.

A team of drug injury attorneys and class action lawyers is investigating potential Veozah lawsuit and settlement cases of women who suffered liver damage after taking Veozah for menopause symptoms.

Veozah (fezolinetant) is a nonhormonal prescription medicine (a neurokinin 3 or NK3 receptor antagonist available as a tablet taken by mouth once daily) used to reduce the frequency and severity of moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms due to menopause, such as hot flashes or night sweats. Veozah is designed to restore the balance between estrogen hormones and a brain chemical called neurokinin B (NKB) by blocking the activities of the NK3 receptor, which plays a role in the brain’s control of body temperature.

Unfortunately, in September of 2024, the U.S. FDA issued a drug safety notice warning that Veozah can cause serious liver injury. The FDA added a “warning about the risk of liver injury to the existing warning about elevated liver blood test values and required liver blood testing in the prescribing information for Veozah.” The FDA also added recommendations about “increasing the frequency of liver blood testing, adding monthly testing for the next 2 months after starting Veozah, and then at months 3, 6, and 9 of treatment as already recommended.”

Veozah Liver Damage Lawsuit & Settlement Cases

Veozah lawsuit and settlement cases potentially being investigated include claims involving women who, after taking Veozah (fezolinetant), suffered from liver damage or liver injury, including:

  • Liver damage
  • Liver injury
  • Hepatotoxicity
  • Toxic hepatitis
  • Chemical-driven liver damage
  • Drug-induced liver injury (DILI)
  • Increased liver enzymes
  • Other Veozah liver injury lawsuit cases

Plaintiffs in the Veozah lawsuits may allege, among other things, that they suffered liver injury after taking Veozah and that defendants knew or should have known about the risks of liver injury but did not provide an adequate warning. The Veozah lawsuit complaints may assert claims for, among other things, negligence, strict liability, breach of warranty, and violation of various state statutes. Defendants in the Veozah lawsuits may include manufacturers, sellers and/or distributors of Veozah, including Astellas Pharma.

Veozah and Menopause Symptoms

In May of 2023, Veozah was approved for use in the U.S. to treat menopause symptoms and, as of May 2024, an estimated 28,700 patients were provided Veozah from retail pharmacies. Menopause is a natural change in a woman’s life when her period stops, typically occurring between ages 45 and 55. During menopause a woman’s body produces less estrogen and progesterone hormones, which can lead to symptoms such as hot flashes and night sweats.

Liver Damage Signs & Symptoms

Signs and symptoms of liver damage can include:

  • Elevated liver blood test values
  • Feeling more tired than usual
  • Fatigue
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Unusual itching
  • Rash
  • Light-colored stools
  • Yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice)
  • Dark urine
  • Fever
  • Loss of appetite
  • Swelling in the stomach, belly or abdomen
  • Pain in the upper right abdomen
  • Confusion
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Muscle tremors
  • Other liver damage symptoms or signs

Procedures and tests used by hepatologists and other physicians to diagnose liver damage can include a patient history, physical exam, blood tests (liver function tests to test for liver enzymes and bilirubin levels), imaging tests (e.g., CT scans, ultrasounds, MRIs and elastography), endoscopy, and liver biopsy, among others.

According to the FDA, “If there are signs and symptoms suggesting liver injury, stopping the medicine could prevent worsening liver injury and potentially return liver function to normal.”

Liver Injury Complications

Complications from liver damage can potentially include bleeding, infections, hepatic encephalopathy (buildup of toxins in the brain), ascites (build up of fluid around intestines), chronic liver disease, hepatitis (inflammation of liver), fibrosis (stiffening of liver), cirrhosis (scarring of the liver), liver failure (loss of liver function), kidney failure and death.

Liver Damage Treatment

Treatment for liver injury depends on the type of liver damage and severity of the disease, among other things, and can potentially include, for example, lifestyles changes (to reduce toxic load), medicine, surgery, and in rare cases, liver transplant.

Time Is Limited To File A Veozah Lawsuit

Deadlines such as statutes of limitation and statutes of repose can limit the amount of time that women have to file a Veozah liver injury lawsuit to try to recover compensation for injuries they claim to have suffered (e.g., liver injury) after using Veozah.

This means that if a Veozah lawsuit claim is not filed before the relevant deadline or limitations period, the injured party may be prohibited from ever pursuing litigation or taking legal action regarding their Veozah injury claim. That is why it is important to connect with a Veozah injury lawyer or attorney as soon as possible.

If you or a loved one have suffered liver damage after taking Veozah, you may be entitled to recover compensation from a Veozah lawsuit case or settlement claim. Contact a drug injury lawyer to request a free case review.
