Allergan Biocell breast implant lawsuits involve allegations that certain textured breast implants and tissue expanders manufactured by Allergan increased the risk of breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) and that patients and healthcare providers were not adequately warned about the alleged risk.
In July 2019, at the FDA‘s request, Allergan issued a worldwide recall of its Biocell textured breast implants and tissue expanders after updated data showed a higher incidence of BIA-ALCL associated with the devices. The FDA reported at the time that the risk associated with Allergan Biocell textured implants was approximately six times greater than the risk associated with textured implants sold by other manufacturers in the U.S.
Thousands of claims have since been filed involving recalled Allergan Biocell implants.
