Lung cancer is a form of cancer that starts in the tissues of the lung when abnormal lung cells grow out of control, spread throughout the body and form one or more tumors. More than 236,700 new lung cancer cases are estimated to be diagnosed in the U.S. each year and more than 130,000 people are expected to die from lung cancer each year in the U.S.
Unfortunately, veterans and others who were exposed to toxic water at Camp Lejeune may be at an increased risk of developing lung cancer.

Camp Lejune Lung Cancer Injury Cases
According to a study that evaluated mortality among Marines and Navy personnel exposed to contaminated drinking water at USMC Base Camp Lejeune with those at Camp Pendleton that did not have a contaminated drinking water supply, the Camp Lejeune group had higher mortality rates for causes of death due to lung cancer.
Similarly, a study that evaluated civilian employees exposed to contaminated drinking water at USMC Base Camp Lejeune compared to Camp Pendleton workers found that Camp Lejeune workers had higher mortality rates for death caused by lung cancer.
Other studies have found links between chemicals found in Camp Lejeune water and lung cancer. For example, studies have suggested a link between exposure to TCE and vinyl chloride (two of the chemicals in the water at Camp Lejune) and the development lung cancer.
