A team of drug injury lawyers is investigating potential lawsuit and settlement cases of patients who claim to have been diagnosed with cancer after taking generic valsartan or valsartan HCTZ that may have been the subject of a valsartan recall.

Valsartan is a medication used to treat hypertension or high blood pressure. Valsartan is in a class of drugs known as angiontensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) that help relax blood vessels in order to lower blood pressure and make it easier for the heart to pump blood by blocking the action of the angiotensin converting enzyme in the body.

In July 2018, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration alerted the public of a voluntary recall of several drug products containing the active ingredient valsartan, used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure, due to an impurity, N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), found in the recalled products that is classified as a probable human carcinogen (a substance that could cause cancer) based on results from laboratory tests.

The valsartan recall includes certain valsartan products supplied by Zhejiang Huahai Pharmaceuticals to various companies that repackaged the recalled varsartan, including Major Pharmaceuticals, Solco Healthcare, Aurobindo Pharma USA, Inc., A-S Medication Solutions LLC, AvKARE  and Teva Pharmaceuticals Industries Ltd., among others.
