Blood cancer is a group of cancers that develop in the blood, bone marrow and/or lymph nodes when red blood cells, white blood cells and/or blood platelets become malignant or abnormal and exhibit uncontrolled growth, interupting the function of normal blood cells.
According to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, more than 1.5 million people in the U.S. may be suffering from blood cancer. Each year in the U.S., more than 186,000 new blood cancer cases are diagnosed and more than 57,000 people are expected to die from blood cancer.

Blood Cancer Injury Claims
The three main forms of blood cancer are leukemia (a cancer of the blood and bone marrow, characterized by rapid growth of abnormal white blood cells that can inhibit the body’s ability to fight infection), lymphoma (a cancer of the lymph system, i.e., lymph nodes, bone marrow and spleen, that develops in lymphocyte cells and can interfere with the body’s ability to fight infection) and myeloma (cancer of the plasma cells, i.e., white blood cells in bone marrow, that can inhibit the ability of the immune system to make antibodies to fight disease).
Blood cancers account for around 10 percent of all diagnosed cancers in the U.S. each year. Lymphomas account for about 48% of all blood cancers in the U.S., while leukemia accounts for about 33% of all blood cancers and myelomas account for about 19% of all blood cancers.
