Acute respiratory distress syndrome ARDS (also known as acute lung injury or noncardiac pulmonary edema, acute hypoxemic respiratory failure AHRF and wet lung) is a serious lung condition (a type of respiratory failure) whereby the air sacs in the lungs (alveoli) fill up with fluid causing less oxygen to be circulated into the blood.

Types of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome ARDS Lawsuits and Wet Lung Cases

Acute respiratory distress syndrome ARDS and wet lung lawsuit and settlement cases potentially being investigated include claims of individuals who were diagnosed with acute respiratory distress syndrome ARDS or wet lung after vaping or using e-cigarettes.

ARDS can occur when there is trauma that affects the lungs, such as a blood infection, breathing in smoke from a fire or harmful substances, pneumonia and other potential causes that lead to an inflammatory reaction resulting in fluid leaks from small blood vessels in the lungs.

The American Academy of Pediatrics reported on a young woman who had suffered from hypersensitivity pneumonitis and acute respiratory distress syndrome from e-cigarette use. The New England Journal of Medicine reported on several cases of patients who had pulmonary illness related to e-cigarette use, including several with acute respiratory distress syndrome or ARDS.
